Home Start Worthing and Adur

Home-Start is a voluntary organisation committed to promoting the welfare of families with at least one child under the age of five. Volunteers offer regular support, friendship and practical help to families under stress, in their own homes, helping to prevent family crisis or breakdown. Home-Start volunteers come from all walks of life, and are usually parents themselves. They are carefully selected for their friendliness, practical approach and understanding. Our volunteers all attend a course of preparation and are then matched with a family. In addition, references are collected and police checks are undertaken.

The families we support come from a wide variety of backgrounds and are looking for support for many different reasons including: isolation, postnatal illness, relationship problems, poverty, disability, single parenthood, child behaviour and coping with multiple births or several young children. Families are often referred to their local Home-Start scheme via their GP, Health Visitor or Social Worker, however families can contact their local scheme directly. The support is free and confidential.
